Theory & Treatment Considerations for Trauma
Foundations of Trauma Theory with Luminous Clinical Director Lauren Gogarty, LMFT.
This course is an introduction to trauma theory and will cover the basics of neuroscience and trauma including Bessel Van der Kolk and Steven Porges (Polyvagal Theory) and their implications for treatment. It will take a practical look at case conceptualization, management, stages of treatment and available treatment techniques. The course is designed to help therapists understand the psycho-physiology of trauma, why it presents as it does, and competently & efficiently develop treatment plans for clients presenting with PTSD/Complex PTSD.
Upon completion of this course, therapists will:
Understand the leading theories about trauma - polyvagal theory, interpersonal neurobiology, neurobiology of flight/fight/freeze & threat detection system.
Understand both the components and arc of trauma treatment.
Be familiar with the leading trauma treatment options and when/how to choose between them.
